Earth-Conscious Expo!

Life would be impossible without the planet we live on. Join Skidaway Island State Park for a day focused on ways we can protect our environment, whether it be as individuals or groups working together. The event will have tables set up by organizations dedicated to environmental protection and vendors offering eco-conscious products. Be sure to stop by the Ogeechee Audubon table.

All ages are welcome for a fun and educational day focused on a truly worthwhile endeavor.

World Migratory Bird Day @ UGA Aquarium

Celebrate World Migratory Bird Day at the UGA Aquarium! Learn about the incredible diversity of birds that visit the Georgia coast each year during their migratory journeys. Bring the family for a fun day of hands-on activities and animal encounters.

Throughout the day, UGA Aquarium educators will be joined by ornithological organizations and birding experts who will have stations set up along the aquarium’s picnic area and Jay Wolf Nature Trail with educational activities for all age groups.

Cost: Aquarium Admission

The World Migratory Bird Day event is included with the cost of admission to the UGA Aquarium. Learn more about admission fees here.

With an 8.4 ft high tide at 9:22 am we will be looking for marsh sparrows, as well as marsh and sedge wren, wintering songbirds, and more.

Meet at the Folkston Entrance to the NWR at 9 am for a walk on the boardwalk, the old homestead, and possibly the upland trail. (4155 Suwanee Canal R d., Folkston , GA 31537 )

Cost: Entrance fee -$5 per car (America the Beautiful National Park and Federal Lands Pass accepted) plus bring $$ for the concession stand for lunch or bring your own lunch.

Fort Pulaski National Monument

We are cancelling the Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021 field trip with Diana Churchill at Fort Pulaski National Monument. It was scheduled for 8:45am - 11:30am.

"A storm system is brewing up that threatens some gusty winds and coastal flooding. In fact, if the forecast holds, the water levels at the Fort Pulaski gauge are predicted to be in the top five water levels in the last 80 years, beating the October 2015 storm for the number four spot" -source: Enki Research

Additionally, Fort Pulaski National Monument will delay opening the park on Saturday and Sunday, November 6th and 7th until 12:00 PM.

We will be taking advantage of the morning high tide to look for marsh sparrows along the dikes and shorebirds on the beach. We might find an early spring migrating Northern Parula or singing yellow-throated warbler. Meet at Ft. Pulaski entrance and gate.

Meet at 7:30 a.m. at Winn Dixie at I-95 Exit 29, or at 8:30 a.m. at east entrance to Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge off Rte. 121. Be aware that Okefenokee is a little over a 2 hour drive from Savannah.
